Group Discussion

Foundation Progamme (FP) takes your studies of Buddhism to a deeper level. On FP we study Dharma page by page, so whereas in Basic Buddhism class we might study patience for one evening, on FP we may spend ten classes on the subject.

The Foundation Program is designed to fulfil this wish. It provides a systematic presentation of the basic subjects of Mahayana Buddhism and forms a perfect basis for a strong daily practice.

Students commit to study a section of the book at a time, and each section concludes with an examination.

F.P. is a wonderful way of deepening our understanding and experience and giving our week a great spiritual boost. You are welcome to come along for a 2-week trial before enroling.

We are currently studying Heart of Wisdom - An Explanation of the Heart Sutra.

Chanted Prayers
The essential preliminary practices of accumulating merit, purifying negativity and receiving Buddha’s blessings are accomplished through chanting Essence of Good Fortune - the sadhana of Buddha Shakyamuni. Chanting also helps us to focus and relax, and improves the quality and power of our speech.

Guided Meditation
This will be on a particular area of the book currently being covered. It gives us confidence to concentrate, penetrate the meaning of the text more deeply and improve our technique.

Teaching
This guides us through the Dharma text and brings it to life for us. We gain the confidence to understand how to draw practical meaning from Buddha’s words, improving our listening skills, concentration and wisdom.

Discussion
Clarifies our personal understanding of the meaning of the text and sharpens our mind with logical reasoning, clarity and faith. The group discussion is a special opportunity to listen to others questions and thus deepen our own understand.

Dedication
We dedicate the vast merit we accumulate each week to the welfare of all living beings and to the attainment of Great Enlightenment by reciting the mantra of Buddha Shakyamuni and the dedication verses.
